A picture of the house where my apartment was. Even though it was actually the basement of the house, it was above ground and had lots of light. Now, in July in Norway, the sun doesn't set so the light was not always welcome. |
| One evening (about 5pm) one of the owners of the club, Jens, stopped by and told me that he was going to show me "the mountain with the hole in it". I said sure and enjoyed the short drive. When I got there he said, "Now you climb mountain." | ![]() |

Here I am with Jens climbing the rocky trail to Torghatten. Jens shared the Norwegian story of the mountain with me. A troll turned seven sisters to stone. The eighth sister ran south and the troll shot an arrow after her. Another troll threw his hat to deflect the arrow. As this arrow pierced the hat the sun rose and turned everything to stone. There is actually a glacial reason that the hole is in the mountain, but the Norwegians seem perfectly happy with the lore surrounding it instead. |
| I turned around part way up Torghatten and saw this view and the Coast Liner - a nine story cruise ship! | ![]() |

Finally! The hole in the mountain! It doesn't look too impressive in this picture, but look closer and you will see several people up by the "hole". They seem very small. I thought that this hole looked like the sort of place that Beaowolf slew Grendle!
